Great summer day. Neighborhood barbecue/birthday party.
Live drummers playing. Basketball courts.

Somehow the girl in us had had enough that day. She wanted out and badly. So in the wide leg dress pants, white long sleeve tee, floral printed headscarf and pale green abayah the game began. First we just aimlessly threw the ball at the net, nervously laughing at our silly selves. Then the “I used to play in college” (Umm Daniel) and the “I come from a family of female athletes” (Teacher~Tamara) came out.
Her name was Umm Daniel and we both were in the park with our sons letting them get out some energy.
We were just in town visiting friends and didn’t know anyone there but it was too nice of a day not to play outside.
The kids ran races, played on the swings, slid down the sliding board, monkey bars etc…
While we did the Mom thing. Holding melting icecreams. Politely chatting about nothing. Fanning flies and mosquitoes. The Mom thing.
Sneakers in the car? Basketball in the trunk.
Ice creams in the trash. Game on.
Drums beating. Park crowded. Hot summer day.
Muslimah Moms ballin’? Priceless.
We left town that day -just visiting, but Umm Daniel if you are out there thanks sis.
You Got Game!

MashAllah Laquwatta illah billah sounds like fun and I was imagining myself being there. Ahh what a nice dream . . . . back to life . . . back to reality
.
Assalamoalaikum.
Firstly, you have a rockin’ blog sis, mashALLAH. Just visiting ur page gives me a new energy (which goes away unattended:().
You know sumtimes i get this urge to awaken “the lil girl” in me. If my cousin is at our place i jus grap her and off we go for a badminton game. BUT i just love to play cricket, and wish there was sum space for us, the sisters to play.
Wa laikum Asalam Sr. Sarah,
JazakhuKhair for the compliment on the blog I’m glad you enjoy it!
I don’t know alot about cricket I have only seen it played few times but it reminds me of baseball. Is there a rule that it can’t be played inside or would you need a large enclosed field? There HAS to be a way to let the lil girl inside get to play cricket every now and again
Just know if you feel this way there are most likely other sisters who would love it too and maybe an indoor women’s only league would be a consideration.
You mentioned the energy goes away unattended. What are some of the things that you would do if the energy was full time? InshaAllah let your imagination go wild, the sky’s the limit! Looking forward to hearing from you again.
Thanks for popping by!

aww, jazakAllah khair.
You knw what i like most abt sister coaches??? they make u feel at home
ohhhh wat wud i luv to do @ time when my engine is full of energy……..so much! there is this eman rush u c. i feel like jumping nd looking for things i cud possibly do like zikr, calling up a dear sister or a relative, do sumthing beneficial on the internet thru the talents tht Allah SWT has blessed me like writing, making sumone happy, making cards and what not. But i just roam ere and there thinking wat to do first and in wat manner. To be honest, procrastination is my problem.
And i love the idea of having an indoor women’s league …..cooool. Oh i played loads of cric with my bro and cousins when i was a kid and turning out to be a rather ferocious player i have had my share in breaking the tubelights of the house and injuring my lil cousin LOL.
Take care and add more sunshine to our lives.
Sarah,
The ideas you have listed here are AWESOME!! Why not get started doing something TODAY? Here’s some free sunshine from Sister Coach Tamara
#1. Pick one small thing and decide that you will not stop working at it until it is completed. That will you will build a sense of confidence in being able to complete something.
#2. Eradicate the word procrastination from your vocabulary. If it didn’t exist what else would keep you from your dream life?
#3. If Allah has given you a vision, He has also given you the means. Maybe you need help in tapping into the way to go about getting your SHINE on! (Email me via the SisterShine LifeCoaching site).
